About IMSA

 
 

International Medical Sciences Academy (IMSA) was established as a global organization in 1981 with a vision of bettering universal health. It is registered as a professional body under The Societies Registration Act XXI (1861) of India and is governed by a board of Trustees. Its headquarters is located at New Delhi, India. The Academy has traversed a long way in the perpetuation of its pristine objectives after its launching nearly three decades ago. Today it is one of the prestigious organizations in Biomedical Sciences sustaining both academic and social relevance.

To meet out the vision of better universal health, IMSA has tripartite approach. The three cardinal components of its mission are biomedical research, medical education and health care delivery. It aims to originate, develop, establish and propagate highest levels of standards in health care sans geographic borders.

Biomedical Research: IMSA promotes biomedical research by offering scholarships, awards for best research papers and stipends for young researchers. The annual conferences of IMSA and its official journal (JIMSA) facilitate dissemination of new research findings.

Medical Education: IMSA has singed Memorandums of Understanding with several leading educational institutions to promote exchange of expertise and experts. Seven prestigious annual orations are instituted to further its goal of knowledge dissemination. Being a multidisciplinary organization, IMSA is ideal body to promote interdisciplinary dialogues and coordinated research. Workshops, seminars, rural CME and patient education programs are periodically organized under the aegis of IMSA.

Health Care Delivery: IMSA endorses the vision of World Health Organization, “Health for all”. IMSA aims to improve not only the availability but also the affordability of health care to people around the globe. To realize this mission, IMSA collaborates with several academic bodies, Government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and other stakeholders of health. It promotes international understanding and co-operation in the designing and implementation of health policies.

IMSACON 2017, Shimla

The basic Aims & Objectives for the annual conference cum convocation IMSACON 2017 are progressive for an interactive session among the participants and the Academy encourages the fraternity to be a part of this multidisciplinary scientific programme at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.

To encourage and promote professional interaction and lifelong learning; recognize outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations; encourage scholar researchers to share their studies and careers with others. To promote interprofessional scientific and educational activities towards the advancement of the theory and practice of multidisciplinary approach.

To bring together Researchers, Doctors, Scientists, Engineers, Scholars and Students in the areas of Medical, Dental, Engineering and Technology, and provide a forum for the dissemination of original research results, new ideas, Research and development, practical experiments, which concentrate on both theory and practices.

To foster and conduct collaborative interdisciplinary research in state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies within their areas of expertise. To share the experience in order to improve the common man’s life by developing new innovative Medical and Engineering ideas, Technical tools or models or products of their need. The new ideas and knowledge may be disseminating to common man by organizing conferences, workshop, seminars and/or awareness programmes which is related to the overall growth/ improvement/ uplift of all sections of the society.

Among the various academic objectives and aims of the Academy to organize its conferences is the development of professional values and behaviors. The Academy is the platform for the fraternity to share and exchange scholarly and research work in the field of medical specialties at IMSACON 2017, as part of continuing medical education.

We invite scientific papers from eminent persons especially for the International Orations the Academy makes it to be the prominent feature at every Annual Conference.

The primary objective is twofold: To continue to develop learner’s knowledge and understanding of professionalism, and in so doing. Contribute to the improvement of patient care. To do so, conference presentations will identify specific learning objectives related to these goals.

The fraternity members are given an opportunity to present scientific papers with an objective to share their experiences that relate directly and clearly to the effect that the presentation will have on a healthcare professionals knowledge, or skills or behaviors that they can bring forward and apply with patients, and peers and members of a healthcare team in a healthcare setting (hospital or classroom or community).

By the end of the presentation and the interactive exchange on the subject the learner will:

Develop the capacity for critical thinking about the nature, ends and limits of medicine with an aim to deepen understanding of illness and suffering, Identify successes and failures in the history of medical professionalism.

Understand the dynamic history of medical ideas and practices, their implications for patients and health care providers, and the need for lifelong learning and promote tolerance for ambiguity of theories, the nature of evidence, and the evaluation of appropriate patient care, research, and education.

Recognize the dynamic interrelationship between medicine and society through history.

Contribute to the improvement of patient care with an aim to critically appraise clinical management from a historical perspective and develop a historically informed sensitivity to the diversity of patients (including appreciation of class, gender, socio-economic status, ethnicity, cultural, spiritual orientations)

Elicit and write a patient’s history worthy of an historian and respond to changes in medical practice guided by a historically informed concept of professional responsibility and patient advocacy.

IMSA collaborates with several prestigious international organizations in realizing its objectives.

  • Memorandum of Understanding between IMSA and RCPSG organizations enables international exchange of scholars. RCPSG provides career support to fellows and members of IMSA through education, training, professional development and examinations. Under the Medical Training Initiative (MIT) scheme of UK RCPSG assesses and recommends 5 to 10 members of IMSA each year.
  • Under the International Sponsorship Scheme (ISS) of UK, RCPSG facilitates General Medical Council (GMC) registration of IMSA members who come to the UK to engage in short-term training opportunities. RCPSG also acts as the link between the visiting scholar and their potential employers such as hospitals, Trusts and Health Boards within the UK.
  • IMSA has initiated IMSA Fellowship Programs in various specialties in collaboration with RCPSG.

2. Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences, Geneva (CIOMS)

CIOMS is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organization established jointly by WHO and UNESCO in 1949. IMSA is a member of CIOMS. This facilitates interaction with several international associations of biomedical experts. It also enables IMSA to have collaborative relations with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, in particular with WHO and UNESCO

 

3. Gulf Medical University, Ajman, UAE

In collaboration with Gulf Medical University, IMSA Middle East Chapter has been established.

5. Government of Republic of Mauritius and Medical Council of Mauritius

In collaboration with Medical Council of Mauritius the 35th annual conference cum convocation of IMSA 2016 was held

6. Medical Council of Sri Lanka

In 2014 office bearers of IMSA met the Honorable Minister Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva of Sri Lanka and the members of the Medical Council of Sri Lanka and discussed close cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in Health sector.
