Opening of the article

Background: Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is a progressive degenerative disease affecting the retinal ganglion cells. T-786C, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the promotor region of endothelial nitric oxide synthase gene ( eNOS) where thymine is replaced by cytosine at -786 is associated with impaired shear stress inducibility of the eNOS expression. Pathophysiology of glaucoma and its association with eNOS is ambiguous which warrants for further study. Objective: To examine the association between T- 786C polymorphism in eNOS gene and its mRNA expression in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma.
